Common Poker Mistakes

Poker is a challenge in strategy where the stakes escalate and losses can be painful. Not knowing what the bet is.
After the turn in a limit game, the bets become double the amount they were before and after the flop. Be aware if the bet was raised. You must especially know what the bet is when your turn is coming up.

Betting out of turn.
This gives an unfair advantage to players that are yet to act. If you raise out of turn, a player that would have called could fold. If you fold out of turn, the player on your left now knows you won't raise. Always wait until the player to your right acts.

Folding instead of checking.
Players who don't like the flop or turn are likely to fold when it is their turn. If you are first to act, check, not fold. If everyone else checks, you get to see the next card for free. And if everyone checks before your turn, also check. The free card may just make your hand.

Not protecting your cards.
If another player's cards happen to mix with yours when they throw in their cards, your hand will be declared dead. So safeguard your cards by placing your hands or a chip on top of them.

Throwing a winning hand into the muck.
Do not be so rash as to throw in your cards just because someone called out a better hand. If you missed a better hand than you thought you had, you just might end up winning.
