23 January 2005 – Talk about having the best of both worlds – the ninth stop on Season Three of the World Poker Tour took place in Atlantis in Paradise. That is, the highest rated series in the history of the Travel Channel, the World Poker Tour (WPT), staged its ninth poker tournament of the season at the Atlantis resort on Paradise Island in the Bahamas from January 5 to 12, 2005. Dubbed as the PokerStars Carribean Poker Adventure, the poker event held its Final Table on Tuesday, January 11, at the Dragon's Patio.
The World Poker Tour ninth stop attracted 461 poker players for a total prize pool of $3,462,400, which is a $1,804,902 increase over last year's event that drew 219 players. The winner of the year’s $8,000 buy-in event takes home $865,600 and advances to the WPT World Championship, which is the World Poker Tour Season Three’s culmination at the Bellagio in Las Vegas, Nevada, on April 18 to 24, 2005.
The WPT PokerStars Caribbean Poker Adventure began taping at 11:00am for the standing room only Final Table event. Among the many recognizable faces spotted at the tables were the likes of John Juanda, Kathy Liebert, Chris Moneymaker, Daniel Negreanu, Evelyn Ng, and David Williams.
The World Poker Tour Season's Three's total prize pool has already topped the $30 million mark at $33,919,170, which is a $14,602,274 increase over WPT Season Two stops to date. The high stakes No-Limit Texas Hold'em tournaments are increasing the number of players at every stop on the World Poker Tour, averaging a "poker millionaire a month." This WPT 16-tournament season's prize pool is anticipated to reach $70 million.
Next in line for the World Poker Tour Season Three is the tenth stop slated at the Horseshoe Casino and Gold Strike Casino in Tunica, MS, on January 24 to 27, 2005. The WPT poker event, dubbed as the World Poker Open, will be staging its Final Table on January 27.
Season Three of the World Poker Tour kicked off with the event Grand Prix de Paris on July 17 to 20, 2004, at the Aviation Club de France in Paris. The World Poker Tour (WPT) airs on the Travel Channel on Wednesday nights at 9 pm ET/PT.
